The building at 14 Heriot Row was built in 1827 as a private residence for the Mercer family — Edinburgh merchants and, briefly, the city's Lord Provost. It remained in the family until 2019.
We bought it, restored it with the lightest possible touch, and opened it in 2024 as a 28-room hotel. The cornicing is original. So are the shutters, the floorboards, three of the four marble fireplaces and the bell-pull system the staff still use, occasionally, for fun.
What's new: the beds, the bathrooms, the wiring, the kitchen, and — proudly — an Edinburgh-listed garden out back that we restored with the help of the Royal Botanic Garden.

A 32-seat restaurant in the former dining room of the house, run by Chef Lila Anderson. Seasonal Scottish menu, six courses, served between 18h and 21h, Wednesday to Saturday.
